Team Building and Effective Communication
Unconventional Training
I’ve had the privilege of working with many leaders and organizations in Reno over many years. I provide a wide range of big picture training services that help leaders and companies thrive.
I often ask leaders to think about how their workplaces would be differently if they could get rid of the behaviors that get in the way of success in their workplaces. I’ll occasionally get a blank, “What do you mean,” kind of stare. We’re conditioned to think that the way we currently do things is the way it’s always going to be. This approach sometimes causes us to get stuck staring at what’s right in front of us while amazing opportunities lie just outside our view. This type of tunnel vision can keep us from achieving goals that might transform our workplaces.
I help proactive leaders focus on the big picture so they can understand the implications of their actions and see things as they relate to other people and events. Here are five ways you can improve your ability to see the big picture.
1. Let go of a pre-
2. Stay away from fear. Leaders frequently try to control people and events because they’re scared that the world will come to an end if it doesn’t happen a certain way.
3. Practice empathy. Make it a point to walk in someone else’s shoes and try to see their perspective clearly. Practice thinking from different perspectives to open your mind to new information and ideas.
4. It’s OK to make mistakes. If you don’t stumble once in a while you’re not alive. A mistake can be a positive opportunity to learn and grow.
5. Shift your focus. When you feel yourself obsessing about any detail simply remind yourself to pull back and see the larger picture. Practice pulling back until it becomes habitual.
Although it’s important to focus on details in the workplace it’s even more effective when leaders are able to see those pieces in the context of a bigger picture. It’s like a person who is two inches away from a tree and is trying to describe what it looks like. They can’t see what the tree looks like if their only focusing on one piece of it. What will you do to see the whole tree?
I greatly enjoy working with proactive leaders and employees in Reno and helping them broaden their perspective and create happy workplaces. Please feel free to contact me, I look forward to talking with you about your training goals.
